An evening with ASTM

While in Jacksonville for their annual conference, the ASTM F-24 committee was invited for factory tours and libations at Sally Dark Rides. It was a perfect opportunity to demonstrate how the creative and technical standards created by this international organization operates within the walls of Sally’s dark ride factory.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted by a spellbinding Wizard (animatronic) and offered a glass of champagne in celebration of Sally’s 45 years in business. The intricate Justice League ride model and the interactive touchscreens around the lobby gave all 200 guests a briefing on how Sally began, who the company is today, and the type of work we do for parks big and small around the world.

Groups of 30 were then led through production halls lined with displays of famous dark ride projects throughout the years. From the design department, to sculpt and mold, the production shop, scenic art, pneumatics, interactives, and finally art finish – something unique and surprising awaited around every corner!

* More about ASTM F24: ASTM Committee F24 on Amusement Rides and Devices was formed in 1978. F24 meets twice a year, usually in February and October, with approximately 350 members from around the world attending three to four days of technical meetings. The Committee, with current membership of approximately 1,000 members, currently has jurisdiction of 24 standards, published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards, Volume 15.07. These standards have and continue to play a preeminent role in all aspects important to amusement rides and devices.

Thank you friends of ASTM for coming out! We welcome you back anytime.

Jakob Wahl, President and CEO at IAAPA and long-time friend, also payed us a visit while briefly in town.  It is always a pleasure to tour industry colleagues around the dark ride factory. Thanks for visiting us Jakob!
