An Incredible Voyage Through Time
Dinopolis – Teruel, Spain
Opened in 2006
El Último Minuto is a 2,700 square-foot water ride which takes visitors on an incredible voyage through time; showing man’s journey from primate to homo sapiens. The thirty-nine animatronic beings, plus five static figures, are scientifically correct and range from two full sized wooly mammoths, a saber-toothed tiger and a huge cave bear to the small, chimp-like Dryopitecus. A roaring nineteen-foot-tall Indricotherium, and a growling, snapping, twenty-five-foot long pre-historic crocodile are among the many museum quality animatronic creatures awaiting visitors in this spectacular dark ride.
The excitement and mystery of the evolutionary story is highlighted by dramatic custom music, along with many special effects…including scents!
The journey begins with the end of the dinosaur era—conveyed in a dramatic multi-media first scene where meteors hit the earth and dinosaur screams are heard in the distance. Then visitors move through a rain curtain into the world of huge, pre-historic animals and the evolution of man.
The pre-ride area features museum-style, static and interactive displays which illustrate the science behind El Último Minuto.
Overall design of the ride was supplied by CB Ocio of Madrid, with Sally Corporation providing the animatronic and static creatures, sound tracks, special effects, lighting, audio and control equipment. All rockwork, foliage and other scenic work was created by Pleyade Arts, located in Husca, Spain.
“What truly distinguishes this ride is the quality of the animatronics and scenic work. This level of authenticity within a theme park environment is unparalleled, and a great complement to the scientific studies being conducted in the laboratories at Dinópolis.”
– John Wood
Dinópolis, which is owned by the Aragon Provincial Government, serves as a center for serious paleontological studies, yet is combined with attractions that are both entertaining and educational. The area in which the center is located has provided a wealth of scientific material about dinosaurs and pre-historic life for study at Dinópolis.
