The fourth Lost Kingdom Adventure, Sally's popular interactive, black light dark ride, has just opened at the new Legoland park in Malaysia. Following several years of successful operation at the Legoland parks in Carlsbad, CA, Windsor, England (where the ride is known as Laser Raiders), and more recently Florida, the ride anchors the Adventureland area of the new park.
Greeted with great excitement by opening day visitors, the ride features Lego's Indiana Jones-type character, Johnny Thunder, in an exciting adventure set in an ancient Egyptian temple, home to a trove of hidden treasure. The approximately 7,000 sq. ft. (650 sq. m.) ten-scene ride pits guests against the wiles of Sir Sam Sinister as they help Johnny Thunder rescue the intrepid reporter Miss Pippin Reed from his grasp, and strive to stop him from stealing the treasure. Only by zapping the targets scattered throughout the ride can you win this battle.
Based on the client's experience at the California and Windsor parks, the two newest rides (Florida and Malaysia) have increased capacity of over 1,000 people per hour, each operating with seventeen four-seater custom ride cars. John Jakobsen, president of Legoland, says that bringing Lost Kingdom Adventure to the California park (in 2008) proved to be a very marketable experience: "We achieved more uplift in our visitation than expected," he notes. Consequently the corporation opened the LostKingdom
ride at the existing Windsor park, with similar positive impact.
"The rides feature some of Lego's most popular characters, are fun and not too scary for young children," says Legoland Senior Project Director Ian Sarjeant. "They have proven to be very popular, and we can rely on Sally to deliver an outstanding product on time and on budget. Incorporating the rides into our new parks was an easy decision."
